I'm thrilled to share that I'm among this year's awardees of a Bruce Geller Memorial Prize/Word Grant from the Institute for Jewish Creativity.  Part of my project involves co-hosting a retreat for liturgical poetry , the first ever Heshbon HaNefesh retreat .

Last week I wrote a dvar Torah for Temple Beth Am's "Taste of Torah", on Bamidbar (May 14, 2021) In the dvar, I mention a new series of poems I've been working on, inspired by a school assignment to create a water ritual. I wrote most of the poems I have so far in the desert, because the deserts are alive, even without water. Below are a few short excerpts.

My first year at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in LA has come to its close. Looking back, in the vacuum of the pandemic lock-down and quarantine, I ended up doing more creative projects than I realized. The Jewish Journal of Los Angeles published my Yom HaShoa-related poem Wannsee today.

A pre post-pandemic poem I wrote recently and read at Heshbon HaNefesh - A Poetic Accounting of a Pandemic Year is up today with Jewschool .  

One little poem of mine made it into this anthology with the awe-some title "101 Jewish Poems for the Third Millennium." 1 out of 101, and alongside names like Janet Hirshfeld, Ed Hirsch, David Lehman, Ilya Kaminsky, Alicia Ostriker, Erika Dreifus, Yehoshua November, and Joanna Furhman. I don't have my author's copy yet, but have noticed beginning social media buzz so am jumping on the band-wagon. It will publish on January 1, 2021 with Ashland Poetry Press (and the world will probably just go on as before, but you might want to pre-order and have it ready)

Back to the beginning! A few weeks ago I wrote this poem inspired by the first chapter of Bereishit, and it's up on Ritualwell .

In times when we can't travel it's nice to write about places we have traveled to. Poem for a New City was featured as Poem of the Day with Brooklyn Poets today.

"Location Scouting" may be just the second of several more Los Angeles poems that want to come out of my notebook. It is featured on The Bridge today.

When Rabbi  Menachem Creditor  asked me if I had a poem that would fit into a collection he was working on, titled "Loud, Proud, and Jewish," I was blown away. Wow, yes, let me see and send you a couple... And now, my poem Shema is part of a book in which diverse Jewish voices discuss "ways to be unapologetically Jewish and not become insular," as Menachem writes in his foreword.  I am so honored and grateful to have a poem included in this important manifesto, alongside an array of Jewish professionals far more accomplished than I am.

I'm thrilled to share that my poem Industry City has been nominated by my publisher, Broadstone Books for a Pushcart Prize .  Industry City is included in my collection Do Not Return and was first published with Curlew Quarterly.

Marine Cornuet and I will be reading from our recently published books at Lizzie King's Parlor in Park Slope on October 23.
